Warbler Week Day 4

Thursday, August 17

12 – 1 pm CST

Warbler-ology: What warblers have taught us about evolution and the natural world

Presented by Ari Rice

Synopsis:

With over 115 colorful species found across two continents, warblers have captivated evolutionary biologists for a very long time. Come learn about some of the recent scientific work that’s being done on this group of birds, the secrets they still hold, and how they’ve helped us address fundamental questions about how birds and other organisms evolve.

Ari’s Bio:

Ari Rice is a PhD student at Texas Tech University who is using genomic tools to study the evolutionary history of the genus, Leiothlypis, which includes 6 familiar warbler species that can all be found in Texas. He is also interested in studying hybridization between species and is currently leading a project on a little-known population of presumed hybrids between Virginia’s and Colima warblers in the Davis Mountains of West Texas.
