WildLife and Fisheries Extension Unit

WILDLIFE SUCCESS STORIES AND ENDANGERED SPECIES

What
A natural resources project utilizing video, lesson plans and an interactive computer program, and an exhibit to enhance awareness of natural resources, in general, and wildlife success stories and endangered species, specifically. Lesson plan materials are designed to address science, math and English.
Who
Lesson plans target third graders. However, teachers are welcome to modify lessons as necessary if other grade levels are targeted. The display and computer programs can be viewed by any elementary school class that desires to enhance awareness of our natural resources endemic to their area.
Why
To enhance elementary student’s understanding of various aspects of wildlife resources and management across the United States using video, computer, exhibit and lesson reinforcement.
How
Fill out the demographic sheet (copies provided) and pre-test before the module arrives on your campus. Visit the display with your class, watch the video and use the interactive computer program. Select a lesson plan activity from the packet provided (such as Oh Deer!) And provide instruction through use of the transparency materials. Administer the immediate post-test before the module leaves your campus. Return all demographic sheets and tests to your county Extension agent immediately following module use.
When
Lesson packets should be forwarded to participating teachers at least two weeks prior to the date when the exhibit will be set up on individual campuses. The exhibit should remain on each campus for a minimum of 2 weeks.
