WildLife and Fisheries Extension Unit

Texas Hunter Education Program

Statement

Since 1995, the Extension Wildlife and Fisheries Unit has maintained a strong partnership and contract with the Texas Hunter Education Program through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. This contract supports the efforts of Hunter Education by expanding their outreach to youth through the grassroots Extension networks in each Texas county. Hunter Education training and certification is offered throughout the year and many times partnered with the statewide 4-H Shooting Sports program and other youth events such as the Shooting Sports/Hunter Education Camp held each year at the 4-H Center on Lake Brownwood. Advanced hunter education programs are offered throughout the year focusing on various species and method specific topics, as well as special topics such as ‘Hunting Ethics’ and ‘Reducing Wingshooting Losses’.
